Day 19, Friday, October 2, 2009 - 71 miles

Today was a day of fantastic sightseeing on Mount Desert Island, the location of most of Acacia National Park. We drove the Main Loop Road, stopping innumerable times for photos. Laurel use our new little Canon and I used the older Olympus. The weather was cool but beautifully sunny. I can't describe the beauty; you will have to see it for yourselves. The 27 miles took almost 4 hours.

We returned to camp for lunch, then headed to Bass Harbor Lighthouse on the extreme southern end of the island. We got to travel through several small towns along the way. Of particular beauty is Southwest Harbor. The lighthouse was small by most standards, but rather beautiful. It was worth the trip.

We again returned to camp with a stop for groceries and beer in Bar Harbor along the way. Again, the wifi at camp was not up, so I am sitting in the campground TV room, where I can tap into the office wifi, catching up on 4 days of blogs.

Tomorrow morning, we start our southern leg of the journey. We will go to Bath, ME for a shipyard museum (and maybe another lobster).

  1. The Wifi not being up two days in a row. Humm! Wonder if the advertised wifi is just to get more customers but no real commitment to actually have it available to campers?
